The events industry in ANZ never tend to question the proposal when we put forward the destination Gold Coast. Whether it is price point, familiarity or simply a matter of being beside the coast remains to be seen. But when we suggest Brisbane as an event destination to our clientele, it often requires detailed explanation. Upon closer inspection, I predict Brisbane is coming into a purple patch with some great new hotels and offsite venues to select from.
First and foremost the fascinating redevelopment at Howard Smith Wharves has a range of options to choose from in terms of having some events offsite from a hotel environment. This clever redevelopment clearly displays that the town planners in Brisbane could teach Sydney a thing or two about how to redevelop industrial into commercial working space for all to enjoy. This new riverside precinct has great public and event spaces to be enjoyed by all.
Brisbane has got the jump on new hotel openings among our capital cities with three brand new and significant hotel assets which really lift the venue selection options for this most underrated destination.
W Brisbane | This hotel made a large statement in terms of long term investment by Marriott. This brand new 312 room inner-city hotel has raised the standard for contemporary design in Brisbane. The addition of multiple meeting spaces and the highly regarded Three Blue Ducks restaurant, famous for its paddock to plate approach, simply are an added bonus to the guest experience. In the evening, the poolside WET deck and Lobby Level Bar are also a great place to gather.
The Westin | With 930sqm of meeting space and a large ballroom, the newly opened Westin Hotel is open for business and adds another option to the Brisbane Marriott portfolio. Health and Well Being for the business traveller are always a strong force behind this exquisite new venue. A well lead hotel team headed up by popular GM Brad Mercer will change the face of event offerings in this city. One of our outstanding event professionals Caitlin Vogelzang recently ran an event at The Westin this month and has offered her insights..
"What a refreshing experience this was to host our event at The Westin, Brisbane. This property offered immaculate accommodation rooms, well received by all of our delegates. As to be expected, The Westin Brisbane offers a very fresh, modern feel with the noticeable theme Be Well echoing through their attention to health and well being. On this occasion, we used The Westin Ballroom which is a beautiful space featuring floor to ceiling windows overlooking the CBD; the perfect backdrop for our night. Banquet staff could not do enough for our delegates. This service combined with delicious food and a steady flow of drinks allowed for a very successful event and I hope to be back soon!" - Caitlin Vogelzang
The Fantauzzo | The third addition to the Brisbane landscape is yet another new-build for the highly regarded Art Series Hotel now under the Accor Group after their acquisition of the Mantra Group of Hotels. This great new hotel adds a succinct dash of colour in addition to The Johnstone at Spring Hill which has also proved popular. The venue celebrates the works of Vincent Fantauzzo and has 166 suites throughout. If you are passing through for a night on business or leisure and want to try something different, give this hotel some thought.
